Feedback from past attendees
I really enjoyed meeting the team – each and every one of them were kind, patient and helpful. I also enjoyed being a part of the team lunch and listening to their announcements – there is no doubt in my mind each person was there because they both believed and shared the founder’s passion to make a difference, and they are all having fun contributing their time and efforts to FOFA. I left my volunteer shift buzzing with such joy from this heart-warming experience that I rang my Sydney colleague to share all about it. We all get to choose whether we want to contribute and make a positive difference in the lives of others – FOFA is an organisation that presents that opportunity to anyone who is ready to make that choice.

I had the best time. I loved seeing everyone, old and young serve together in such a beautiful way to look beyond our everyday needs and worries and serve people in need. Absolutely loved working with FOFA volunteers, everyone was so kind to us, teaching new kitchen skills and encouraging each other for the part each one plays. Would love to come again whenever time permits to support the FOFA team.

Corporate Volunteering FAQs
-
Volunteering with FOFA is a great way to work together as a team to make a meaningful difference for people in need in our local communities. The meals that your team will help prepare will be delivered by our agency partners to vulnerable people across Knox, Yarra Ranges and other nearby areas.
By volunteering with FOFA, your company will make a tangible contribution to the community and deliver on your corporate social responsibility objectives.
-
Guided by our passionate and experienced volunteers, your team will work in groups to prepare, cook and pack ready to eat meals. Using rescued and donated ingredients, you will help us transform food that would otherwise go to waste into delicious, nutrient packed dinners.
These meals will then be frozen, and later distributed to clients in need through our many agency partners.
You will also learn about how FOFA operates, gaining knowledge about how to reduce food waste using tricks and tips you can continue at home!
-
While we have food donated, FOFA still purchases food each week to supplement the donated ingredients, and encounter other costs such as packaging.
A donation of $80–$100 per volunteer helps cover the cost of producing meals each week — and makes a big difference! We’d also love to recognise your company and volunteers as sponsors of that week’s cook-up on our social media. If you’d like to explore this, just let our team know! -

-
Please wear clothes suitable for cooking - including closed toe shoes and avoiding any loose fitting clothing that might get in the way while you are preparing food. Please also ensure that if you have long hair, you should tie it back, and remove jewellery (lest it falls into the food).
We’ll also kit you out with a stylish apron and a hair net when you arrive!.

For short volunteer stints we do not require you to have a Working with Children Check.
To make volunteering safe for everyone, we do recommend that you complete the free Do Food Safely course from the Victorian Department of Health before attending (link here). It takes less than an hour and ensures everyone uses the same terminology and is confident with safe food handling practices in a commercial kitchen.
On completion, you will receive your DoFoodSafely Certificate of Completion – a certificate that is well- respected by the food industry across Australia.
